Olympic weightlifting is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic program. Athletes attempt to move as much weight as possible from the ground to either the shoulders (clean) or directly overhead (snatch).

The 2 Olympic lifts are the:

  • Snatch

  • Clean and jerk

In competition, each athlete has only 3 attempts at each lift. The combined total of the highest two successful lifts determines the results within a bodyweight category. The components of the lifts are great at producing explosive force and functional strength. These lifts have been incorporated in many elite athlete's training regimen.

At Mercury Strength and Conditioning we will introduce you to these very technical lifts and work with you in order to become efficient at generating power and explosive force which can be reproduced in other activities or movements.

This group of athletes meet 4 to 5 times per week to move some serious weight around quickly. The focus is building strength, speed, and power. Although this is a strength-biased program, athletes should expect to do some conditioning 2 to 3 times per week at the end of their lifting session.

Powerlifting is a weight lifting competition sport.

It comprises three lifts:

  • Squat

  • Deadlift

  • Bench press

Each lift has rules and regulations for what constitutes a valid lift. They can compete equipped or raw (that is with or without the use of supportive equipment respectively). Powerlifting requires specialized training techniques that are focused on strength and explosive power.

Traditional training methods dictated low repetitions with maximal weight. These practices are still true today, however, training methods have advanced to include emphasis on explosive power. This may be achieved through dynamic exercises which utilize lighter weight and alternating repetition patterns. At Mercury Strength and Conditioning we will teach you each of these lifts with precision and introduce you to a brand new world of strength.

This group of athletes meet a minimum 4 times per week to move some heavy weight around. The focus is building raw strength. Athletes who are looking to increase their 1 repetition maxes (RM) should look no further than here.
